Design Description:
Barnett Fronczak Barlowe Architects was retained by the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center to find a feasible and economical way to add Executive Suites and Club Seats into an existing arena. Barnett Fronczak Barlowe was hired after several other design options were explored and discarded. The BFB solution was to place the Executive Suites on a new concourse level just above the main concourse. A second new concourse was designed for the relocated Balcony Seating above the Suite Level. The Project included the addition of 34 Suites, 1,004 Club Seats, and a new Restaurant. The Balcony Seating concourse included new concession stands, rest room facilities, and provisions for additional handicapped. All of the improvements were accomplished without changing the existing seating capacity.
Construction:
This work was accomplished by removing the existing upper pre-cast seating platforms on the upper raker bean and reusing them on a new structural steel framing system. The structural steel framing system was used because of its light weight and ease of installation within the existing facility. This work was accomplished while the Civic Center remained in continuous operation.
